DEFRA - Consultation on Environmental Permitting Programme (EPP) and Waste Technical Competence
Defra and the Welsh Assembly Government has launched the fourth Government EPP consultation for a streamlined environmental permitting and compliance system.
The consultation addresses guidance on the European Directive requirements for environmental permitting and specific proposals for demonstrating the revised technical competence for permit holders of waste operations. These proposals, if implemented, would bring about a significant change to the existing COTC scheme.
You are invited to respond before the consultation closes on 10 October 2007.

TRAINING AND CAPITAL GRANTS AVAILABLE
SERAC draws your attention to the availability of grants to organisations who are registered in the East of England (Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire).
The rules for the grants are as follows:
1. Capital Grants
£10,000 for equipment that diverts waste from landfill and increases employment. These grants are currently due to expire March 2008. Applicants will be required to put together a short business case as part of their application.
2. Training Grants
Up to £1,400 per employer for any non-statutory training - this must be completed by 30th November 2007. So the training grant could be used for one, or a number of employees up to this value. The employer is required to contribute 50% of the costs if they employ more than 250 employees, or 30% if they employ less than 250 employees.
If you are interested in either, or both, of these schemes please contact us for further details.
