Continuing Competence

When do I need to take the Continuing Competence Test?

When was your last Continuing Competence Test?

  • Period 1- if you achieved your last continuing competence certificate between 1st March 2009 and 29 February 2012 your Continuing Competence certificate needs to be renewed by 28th February 2014.

  • Period 2 - if you achieve(d) your Continuing Competence Test certificate between 1st March 2012 and 28th February 2014 the test certificate needs to be renewed by 29th February 2016. In future – from 1st March 2014 - when you pass the WAMITAB assessment your Continuing Competence Test certificate will be dated from the date of your test – with the test certificate having a 2 year expiry date – so you then have 2 years in which to undertake another WAMITAB test.

Note - from November 2013 those obtaining their Continuing Competence Test certificates will see a change in the way the renewal timescale is specified - the new style test certificates will clearly show a specific expiry date by which future Continuing Competence Test certificates must be renewed. Initially – so that no candidate is disadvantaged during the transition period, anyone completing the test in the period up to 28 February 2014 will receive a certificate with an expiry date of 29 February 2016.

When did you achieve your Operator Competence Certificate?

  • If you achieved your Operator Competence Certificate between 22nd December 2008 and 29th February 2012, you will need to pass the Continuing Competence Test by 28th February 2014.

  • If you achieved your Operator Competence Certificate (OCC) after 1st March 2012, you will need to pass the Continuing Competence Test within 2 years of the date shown on your OCC (or COTC) - e.g. you achieved your OCC/COTC 15th July 2012, so you will then you need to successfully complete a Continuing Competence Test by 15th July 2014.
