Facilities Management

There are primarily two groups of qualifications in the Facilities Management sector – NVQ’s and VRQ’s. Candidates can choose which qualification they wish to achieve depending on the level of qualification they require and the method of assessment that suits them.

Funding may be available for some candidates or qualifications – click here  for details.

The qualifications are suited to most employees in the diverse facilities management industry – this suits organisations and their employees such as:

  • Contract facilities management providers to commercial and industrial premises
  • Those employees providing support services within their own organisations such as schools, local authorities, housing associations, offices, prisons, hospitals and the like

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s)

NVQ’s qualifications are delivered and assessed largely in the workplace and focussing on each candidate’s own experience and job role. This type of qualification is more suited to candidates who have existing experience of the sector who wish to achieve an award to demonstrate current competence.
This qualification is currently available at Level 3 so suits those broadly in a Supervisory role. It is anticipated that a Level 4 award suited to facility managers will soon be available.
Other NVQ’s at Level 2 can be offered aimed at those personnel involved in the delivery of the FM service such as cleaning.

Vocational Related Qualifications (VRQ’s)

These qualifications suit those who wish to undertake a programme of learning and are suited to a range of ‘classroom’ and workplace sessions of guided learning, ranging from 50-200 hours.

The qualification is available at Levels 3-6, so suits a wide range of job roles from Supervisor through to Supervisors and Directors. The qualification has a range of optional routes to match a wide variety of FM skill requirements and allows learners to choose the pathway that meets their current or future responsibilities
